Elderly Leatherface Concept For Texas Chainsaw 3D

by Admin

Geek Tyrant have managed to get there hands on some concept designs, which Jerad S Marantz was commissioned to create for an elderly Leatherface look for the current box office hit movie Texas Chainsaw 3D.

This makes sense seeing as the film was meant to take place 40 years after the original events. Interesting designs for an elderly Leatherface concept.

Gravedigger Horror Movie Promo

A vigilante serial killer is stalking, killing and burying those he has judged guilty and anyone in this corrupt town could be next! Murder, Mayhem, Blood, Deception & NO way out are a few ways to describe this disturbing new heart pounding thrill ride. “Gravedigger” tells the story of Steve Borden who is a brilliant, young criminal defense attorney. As junior partner in a local, high end law firm, he makes his living defending the indefensible. When a case gone horribly wrong haunts him, Borden’s conscience begins to send him into a guilt-ridden spiral. Police Chief George Orkin is the town’s top cop. With more bodies turning up buried, District Attorney Mike Ruble suspects Orkin’s ties to crime boss Charles Muzzatti may be the answer to the case. Now, Orkin must deal with his own eroding sense of integrity to keep both sides of the law off his back. As paranoia rises and Borden, Orkin, Ruble & Muzzatti try to pin the murders on each other, could another, more sinister force be hunting them? Codes, morals and misguided views of justice collide when the law, the mob and the Gravedigger face off in a bloody battle that will darken the survivor’s souls forever. Five Must-See Man In A Box Thrillers

by Admin

Five Must-See Man In A Box Thrillers

by Bob Schultz

Below Zero

With BELOW ZERO (www.belowzeromovie.com) screening at Grimm Up North in Manchester, the changing face of the film industry is coming into focus. Independent filmmakers and aspiring screenwriters – unless they happen to have written “Harry Potter,” are going to find more and more insurmountable obstacles between them and Hollywood’s studio system.

The good news is that advances in technology have made the entire filmmaking process, from writing to production to distribution, more accessible to independent producers. These same advances have forced writers to become independent producers, offering them creative control throughout the process. Screenwriters will soon be visionary driving forces behind feature films, just as they have become in television.

With this focus on strong writing, and eschewing spectacle, many writers/producers are turning toward  “Man In A Box” stories to get their films made. When Signe Olynyk and I created Man In A Box Films, we were attracted to the writing challenge of putting a limited number of characters in one location. With only story, character, and theme to rely on, the end result is stronger stories on a manageable budget.

But we are far from the first filmmakers to put a man in a box. Here are the five best MAN IN A BOX FILMS. In honor of BELOW ZERO’s visit to Manchester’s GRIMM UP NORTH (www.grimmfest.com) on October 7, and our appearance at the London Screenwriters Festival October 26-28 (www.londonscreenwritersfestival.com), I present just a few of the excellent Man In A Box movies in the grand horror/thriller tradition.

1) THE SHINING

The Shining

The ultimate cinematic expression of claustrophobia, writer’s block, and the slow descent into madness. This classic may be more Stanley Kubrick’s story than Stephen King’s, and in retrospect, Nicholson was clearly trying to tunnel out of the Overlook by eating the scenery, but THE SHINING still remains king of the mountain. Sitting at our computers, staring blankly, waiting for the next spark of inspiration, how many of us have typed ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKE JACK A DULL BOY, just to get the ball rolling? Though the Overlook was a huge, luxurious box, it was a trap for the Torrance family, just the same.

2) CUBE

Cube 1997 Movie

Canadian horror doesn’t begin and end with the work of David Cronenberg. Nestled comfortably between the works of Bob Clark (BLACK CHRISTMAS) and Maurice Devereaux (END OF THE LINE), Vincenzo Natali’s paranoid thriller turns the potential disadvantages of a Man In A Box structure into strong story dividends. The standard “Ten Little Indians” style of modern horror sees the small cast getting bumped off in creative ways one by one, but the inventive prison, a healthy dose of suspenseful geometry, and character-based twists and turns makes CUBE a hidden treasure. The whole movie is shot in one room, repurposed over and over again to give the feeling of an ingenious and expansive prison, proving that confining characters to one location need not be claustrophobic..

3) THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ALICE CREED

The Disappearance Of Alice Creed

Where many horror/thriller movies (particularly those of the Man In A Box variety) rely on an external evil, or a mysterious inner demon, ALICE CREED leans on that old reliable stand-by: People are evil, and often have hidden agendas. Three strong characters (two kidnappers and their victim) drive the story and leave the audience wondering what happens next. Alice’s titular disappearance both answers questions and opens up whole new ones, as the viewer is pushed to question his allegiances until the very last frame.

4) MISERY

Misery

Another writer trapped in that box, this time his own inner demons come in the form of an obsessed fan (a legendary performance by Kathy Bates). Sure, she’s demented and obsessed with a fictional character, but even author Paul Sheldon (James Caan) admits that she inspires his best writing ever. When writing BELOW ZERO, Signe Olynyk arranged to have herself locked in a slaughterhouse freezer for five days for inspiration. Though she was not held against her will (and left with two functioning feet), BELOW ZERO, like Sheldon’s Misery series, benefited from the inspiration of forced isolation.

5) LIFEBOAT

Lifeboat Alfred Hitchcock

In an age when a thriller’s success is often measured by buckets of viscera spilled, one can easily forget the vein of suspense that thickens as flawed humans struggle to survive. Whether the external threat came in the form of an inexplicably deadly flock of birds or an insane killer insisting an innocent man become the same, Hitchcock was the best and exploiting this mother lode. When a German U-Boat and a British ship sink each other in combat, the British survivors, and one mysterious German are stuck aboard a lifeboat, struggling with their circumstances. But as always in this type of situation, they have more to worry about from their fellow survivors than they do from the terrors of starvation, drowning, or thirst. As for Hitchcock’s famous habit of giving himself a brief cameo in each of his films, LIFEBOAT provided a unique challenge. Which he solved with cheeky appeal.

Honorable Mention: Panic Room.  Saw.  Open Water. 127 Hours.  Phone Booth.  Cast Away (with points deducted for the high budget).

In an age when literally anything is possible on film or in screenplays, the unique challenge of confining characters to very few locations presents a lot of advantages (low budget, stronger characters, no deus ex machina temptations), and incredible challenges for the screenwriter who chooses to go this route. Inner conflict has fueled movies since the dawn of cinema. Without so many external obstacles available as tools to the writer, the story is forced to turn inwards and discover the strengths and flaws in your protagonist and your writing

We are always looking for unique, exciting horror/thrillers that fit the Man In A Box structure. If you have one, please pitch us! Send your logline to info@belowzeromovie.com. And here’s hoping you can write yourself out of any box that traps you.

Dead Man’s Lake

by Admin

Bloody Cuts sixth short film premiered tonight called Dead Man’s Lake and in our opinion is their best work yet. So we have linked up the full short film for you gore fans below.

Born from a passion for the golden age of slasher films, “Dead Man’s Lake” is a story drawn from the brain of Bloody creator Ben Franklin, who takes Directing duties for the first time. Armed with a script from Joel Morgan, the team set about creating an 80?s period horror that would capture the spirit of that era whilst giving it a unique Bloody Cuts killer twist. Filmed entirely on exterior locations, the film sees many firsts for the team, including some of the most extreme scenes we’ve brought to the screen so far!

Dead Man's Lake

Shot on an Arri Alexa, the 2 day shoot threw many seemingly impossible tasks in front of the team, but we wouldn’t be defeated. Quite the opposite, as we produced the longest film of the series, shot on 3 separate locations, and with the biggest cast yet – including Harry Potter star Jon Campling.

The Post Production process on Dead Man’s Lake was the most intensive to date, with over 40 VFX shots to complete, as well as an authentic grade from popular colourist Patrick Inhofer (Tao of Color). But the time spent in our darkened edit suites was worth the sacrifice, as we produced a film that is every bit what Bloody Cuts is all about… Pure unadulterated horror!!

Drenched clothes, burnt faces and a smashed car, this is one summer the Bloody Cuts team won’t forget in a hurry!

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D Poster

by Admin

Lionsgate have just released the Official teaser poster for the upcoming movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. Texas Chainsaw 3D is due to hit theatres January 4th 2013 and was a few days ago rated “R” by the MPAA for “strong, grisly violence and language throughout.”

“‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’continues the legendary story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace. The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible. Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young woman escaped the Sawyer house following the brutal murders of her four friends. Word around the small town quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family – or so they thought.

Warner Brothers Considering Shining Prequel?

by Admin

According to The Los Angeles Times movie giants Warner Brothers are considering the possibility of a prequel to ‘The Shining’.

The Shining Prequel

The film would focus on events prior to what happened with Jack Torrance(Jack Nicholson) and his family at the Overlook Hotel. The Shining was the 1980 movie based on the best selling Stephen King novel and directed by Stanley Kubrick. See The Shining synopsis below.

A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and of the future.

The studio has solicited the involvement of Hollywood writer-producer Laeta Kalogridis and her partners Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt to craft a new take as producers. A Warner Brothers spokeswoman cautioned that any “Shining” prequel was in a very early stage and not even formally in development.

Still even the possibility of a return to the Overlook Hotel will have fans talking.
