Top 10 Slasher Movies

by Admin

The slasher sub-genre was what made me fall in love with horror, so the movies below hold fond memories for me. Let Horror Warehouse give you a run down of their top 10 slasher movies of all time.

We’d love to hear what everyone elses favorite slasher movies are ?.

10. Just Before Dawn(1981)

Just Before Dawn Horror Movie

Just Before Dawn is the 1981 slasher movie where five campers arrive in the mountains to examine some property they have bought, but are warned by the forest ranger Roy McLean that a huge machete-wielding maniac has been terrorising the area. Ignoring the warnings, they set up camp, and start disappearing one by one.

9. I Know What You Did Last Summer(1997)

I Know What You Did Last Summer Fisherman Ben Willis Killer

I Know What You Did Last Summer is the 1997 movie starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar which is loosely based on the book by Lois Duncan, where four teens are in great danger one year after their car hits a stranger whose body they dump in the sea.

8. Childs Play(1988)

Childs Play Horror Movie

Childs Play is the 1998 movie about a single mother gives her son a beloved doll for his birthday, later they find out that the doll is possessed with the soul of a serial killer, who trys to transfer his soul into the boy’s body in order to become human. The movie birthed the iconic serial killer doll Chucky.

7. Psycho(1960)

Psycho 1960

Psycho is a 1960 American suspense/horror film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Anthony Perkins, Vera Miles, John Gavin, and Janet Leigh.

Psycho is about a young womanwho steals $40,000 from her employer’s client, and subsequently encounters a young motel proprietor too long under the domination of his mother.

6. Scream(1996)

Scream Movie 1996

Scream is the 1996 movie directed by Wes Craven in which a killer known as “ghost face” begins killing off teenagers, and as the body count begins rising, one girl and her friends find themselves contemplating the “Rules” of horror films as they find themselves living in a real-life one.

Scream was the catalyst for jump starting the slasher genre with movies such as I Know What You Did Last Summer and Urban Legends.

5. Black Christmas(1974)

Black Christmas

Black Christmas(1974) is one of the early slasher movies that was the inspiration for many to come. A sorority house is terrorized by a stranger who makes frightening phone calls and then murders the sorority sisters during Christmas break.

4. Friday The 13th Part 2(1981)

Friday The 13th Part 2

Friday The 13th Part 2 was the 1981 sequel and the second film in the F13th franchise. I know most will be wondering why i haven’t picked the original Friday The 13th(1980), but i actually prefer part 2 purely for the introduction of Jason Voorhee’s to the series. This was when Jason was at his scariest, quick moving and the sack head flannel shirt look rocked.

3. A Nightmare On Elm Street(1984)

A Nightmare On Elm Street 1984

A Nightmare On Elm Street was my introduction to the horror genre and remains one of my favorite film franchises. The movie was what brought us one of the most iconic horror villains of all time in Freddy Krueger.

A Nightmare On Elm Street is the classic 1984 movie written and directed by Wes Craven which tells the story of a deceased child murderer who torments the children of the members of the lynch mob that killed him.

As much as i love all of the entries of the ANOES franchise minus the remake of course, i would have liked to have explored the darker Freddy as he was portrayed in the original further in the series.

2. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre(1974)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Tobe Hooper’s 1976 low budget cult classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre always holds fond memories for me. I remember thinking that the movie was quite slow the first time i watched it, only to have my mind completely blown away during the last 30 minutes.

The dinner scene and the family were so mentally disturbing it was completely different to any of the other horror movies i had watched until then.

1. Halloween(1978)

Halloween 1978

John Carpenter’s, 1978 Halloween still remains one of the most influential horror movies of all time and introduced yet another horror icon in Michael Myers. Everything from the chilling music to the atmosphere was perfect and is why we have picked it as our number one slasher movie.

Halloween is a 1978 American independent slasher-horror film directed by John Carpenter, co-written with Debra Hill, and starring Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis in her film debut. A psychotic murderer institutionalized since childhood for the murder of his sister, escapes and stalks a bookish teenage girl and her friends while his doctor chases him through the streets.

Celluloid Screams 2012 First Films Announced

by Admin

Celluloid Screams: Sheffield Horror Film Festival returns to Showroom Cinema, Sheffield this October for its fourth edition, with a weekend packed full of premieres, previews, special guests and more. The full lineup will be announced in September, but we are pleased to announce the first wave of titles for Celluloid Screams 2012.

SPECIAL EVENT: NIGHTBREED: THE CABAL CUT (UK/USA) – Dir. Clive Barker / Restoration Director. Russell Cherrington

Clive Barker's Nightbreed The Cabal Cut

The turbulent production of Clive Barker’s ‘Nightbreed’ is the stuff of legend, and the film released in 1990 was a far cry from Barker’s original novella, with many significant scenes excised by the film’s producers. Presumed lost for over twenty years, the footage surfaced in the form of two separate workprints and has been integrated with scenes from the original theatrical version to create ‘The Cabal Cut’ – a fully fleshed-out monster epic that captures Clive Barker’s original vision in vivid detail.

We are delighted to welcome Restoration Director Russell Cherrington and cast members Simon Bamford, Nick Vince and Hugh Ross and for a very special Q&A session after the screening.

2012 FEATURE FILMS

Our feature film programme reflects the finest genre filmmaking from across the globe. Ahead of the full lineup announcement, here is a selection of our new feature films from this year’s programme.

BEFORE DAWN – (United Kingdom) – Dir. Dominic Brunt

Before Dawn Celluloid Screams 2012

A couple in turmoil retreat to the countryside to attempt to salvage their relationship but are soon fighting for their lives as they find themselves in the middle of a zombie epidemic. Executive Produced by Marc Price (Colin), Before Dawn combines intimate relationship drama with gruesome gore and is a triumph of new British genre filmmaking.

We welcome Director/Actor Dominic Brunt and several members of the cast and crew to Celluloid Screams for a Q&A.

CELL COUNT (USA) – Dir. Todd E. Freeman

Cell Count

This stunning Cronenbergian body-horror is the story of Russell Carpenter, who reluctantly admits his wife Sadie into an experimental treatment facility for her life threatening disease. While locked in this prison-like surrounding they, along with 6 others, are unknowingly subjected to a cure that might just be worse than the disease itself.

UK Premiere – Director Todd E. Freeman joins us for a Q&A.

EXCISION (USA) – Dir. Richard Bates Jr.

Excision Movie

Pauline is a troubled teen. Socially awkward and with an unhealthy obsession with surgery, Pauline’s alienation leads her down a dark path, culminating in extreme measures to gain the approval of her mother in this Sundance Film Festival hit.

MANBORG (Canada) – Dir. Steven Kostanski

Manborg

From Canadian film collective Astron-6 comes Manborg, a riotously entertaining sci-fi horror in which a soldier killed in battle is brought back to life as a cyborg to fight alongside a band of adventurers against demon hordes in a dystopian future.

And, from our classics selection we have…

OPERA  (Italy) – Dir. Dario Argento

Opera Dario Argento

A young opera singer is stalked by a deranged fan in Dario Argento’s baroque shocker. 25th Anniversary screening.

More programme announcements coming soon! .

To get the most out of Celluloid Screams 2012, book a festival pass for access to every film across three days. Celluloid Screams Festival Pass – £60 / £50 concessions Book at the Showroom Box Office – 0114 275 7727, or online.
